This software provider has some awesome games.
Since I’ve been a regular online slots player in Ontario, I’ve discovered two things.
- There’s a wide range of online slots from an array of providers.
- I’m not able to play them all for real money.
While for the most part this isn’t too much of a hardship, it does suck when you really want to play a game that’s prohibited in your region.
I recently learned, because I’m in Ontario, I can’t play any slots from Yggdrasil Gaming. In fact, without a VPN, I can’t even demo them. If you’re in the same situation – with this or another provider whose casino games you’d like to play for real money – I understand your frustration.
Now, some might think, “Mia, there are like a thousand other online slots from great providers that you can play in Ontario.” You’re right, and I’m a big fan of Play’n GO slots, NetEnt slots, Pragmatic Plays Slots, and those from Games Global…but that doesn’t mean I’m interested in Yggdrasil slot games any less. 😆
Why? Keep reading and I’ll explain why and reveal the top Yggdrasil slots I want to play.
Yggdrasil Slots – Unique and Fun
Who is Yggdrasil?
Yggdrasil Gaming is a Malta-based software company that’s been producing online casino games since it was founded in 2013. Most notably, the company is known for its innovative online slot machines.
A winner of many industry awards, Yggdrasil’s games are renowned for their high-quality graphics, engaging features, and unique “Game Engagement Mechanics” (GEMs) like GigaBlox, Splitz, MultiMax, DoubleMax, GigaRise, FastPot5, TopHit, WildEnergy, and more. Each GEM is a unique in-game bonus system that adds something interesting and thrilling to the game. For instance, with Multimax, multipliers can accumulate on reels, allowing for each win to be multiplied by 5 different multipliers. While, if GigaBlox is in action, reels can synch into a monster-sized reel up to 6×6.
I’ve also read that their games are well liked because they’re not cookie-cutters of one another. That’s pretty cool because it’s not uncommon for software providers to switch up a theme but use the same skins. The problem with using the same skin for several slots is that gameplay becomes predictable and repetitive, downgrading overall enjoyment.
Other facts about Yggdrasil:
- It has over 260 games (most are slots, but they also have progressive jackpots and a few table games like roulette).
- Its games are available at over 700 brands (including, PlayOJO, LeoVegas, and BetMGM).
- Yggdrasil is in 28 supported regulated markets (I wish one of those was Ontario!).

Top Yggdrasil Slots (I wish I could play for real money)
There are no Yggdrasil online slot games in Ontario that I can play for real money or demo (at least not at the time I wrote this). However, if there were, among those I’ve demoed (with a VPN), these are the ones I’d want to play for realsies first*.

After each cascade win, the multiplier increases leading to big win potential.

Why I like – I’m not typically an ancient Egyptian-themed slots fan, but this one is an exception. Valley of the Gods has impressive animations and a soundtrack to match. Its gameplay is quite unique as well, with additional symbols unlocking (expanding reels) each time you win, giving chances of winning up to 3,125 ways.
Jackpot Raiders

Why I like it – Jackpot Raiders is an online slot that is super engaging with lots going on. It’s a story-driven adventure where you join a group of travellers on a quest to find treasure in the Sunken City. It’s a multi-jackpot game with multiple minigames. Not only do I like the various bonus features, I like that with some of them, you can choose the risk level.
You Can Play Yggdrasil online slots in Canada, just not in Ontario
Even though you can’t play Yggdrasil slots at an Ontario online casino, you can at Canadian casinos. In other words, online casino sites that offer games to Canadians outside of Ontario.
Why not Ontario? Regulations. Yggdrasil Gaming does not have an Ontario license. Without an official license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the company cannot offer its games to players in our province. It’s as simple as that.
Why in other parts of Canada? Yggdrasil has an MGA (Malta Gaming Authority) license. This allows the company access to gaming markets that do not officially regulate remote gambling. If an online casino offers their services to Canadian players under an MGA license and they have Yggdrasil slots, Canadians can play them.
For instance, one of the casinos where I play is PlayOJO. Its operator – SkillOnNet – is a partner with Yggdrasil. Ontarians are restricted to playing at PlayOJO.ca (the Ontario licensed site), licensed by the AGCO. Players in other regions of Canada can access PlayOJO.com/ca, which is licensed by the MGA. As such, PlayOJO players outside of Ontario can play Yggdrasil games.
How do I know this? I’ve used a VPN to access PlayOJO Canada to see what the differences are compared to what I get at PlayOJO Ontario. What I learned is that it’s mostly the games that are different. Interestingly, while PlayOJO Canada has Yggdrasil games, unlike Ontario, it doesn’t have NetEnt slots.

Where can you demo Yggdrasil slots if you’re in Ontario?
The best place is to go to the official Yggdrasil Gaming site. You can search the games they have, learn about them, and demo them free. Often times, you can also find demos on slot review sites as well as at online casinos that offer the games.
If you’re in Ontario, you will need a VPN in order to demo the games.
If you don’t have a VPN and don’t want to get one, another way to check out the games they offer is to go to Yggdrasil’s official YouTube channel. There are lots of gameplay videos for many of their titles.
Of course, if you live outside of Ontario (or play outside of the province) you should be able to demo and play Yggdrasil slot games for real money at any online casino that has them.
